Felony Charges Against Unlicensed “denturist”

Douglas Sowkin was charged with unauthorized practice of a health profession, a felony, in April 2008. Sowkin, who is not a licensed dentist, operates in Howell and Pinckney under the names “Duke of Dentures” and “Sowkin Prosthetics.” The case resulted in a plea bargain. Dr. Joanne Dawley, president of the Michigan Dental Association, prepared this background information for the judge in the case.

Seen here, LDDS presents Gleaners Food Bank with a $14,000 donation for 2007. The dentists pictured worked with patients to sell the gold from the patients’ old cut-off crowns. Gleaners will use the proceeds to fund low-income nutrition programs in Livingston County.
